What type of car is best for you?

>> Sunday, June 17, 2012

When you're looking into the market for your latest vehicle, it's often hard to understand what exactly the names in front of you mean. Manufacturers produce so many new vehicles each year that they're well past simply calling their new model the 'glide' or 'storm' - it's the 'X.12' or 'Z class'. You're then left with a bit of a problem if you're browsing for vehicles online - unless of course you know exactly what you want.
The best way to go about searching for a new or used vehicle is to assess what you need it for, then find out exactly what type you're after. You can then go about browsing other cars in the same grading, if you wish.
Ask your dealer or car finance loan provider to take at look cars in the following categories and they'll be sure to point you in the right direction.

Hatchback
The most common form of vehicle available on the market, many see a hatchback as a mid-sized car featuring either three or five doors. Smaller or turbocharged versions usually have a trio of available exits - one on the boot, two for the passenger and driver - while larger versions with bigger cargo spaces have five. If you're after something fairly nippy, go for a three door with a 1.6-litre engine.

Saloon
A speedy vehicle suitable for family use, the modern businessman will often opt for a saloon. The engine's are usually larger than those found in hatchbacks to increase the car's pulling power. This is because most will feature a spacious boot for those much needed family holidays. The back-ends of old saloons tend to look a little disproportionate, so it's advised that you go with one of the newer, sleeker versions.

People carrier
A step up from the saloon, there's not much you won't fit inside a people carrier. Fold down one of the six or seven seats and you've got more boot space than you could ever need, or keep them up for those nights out with your friends. Performance is, of course, compromised a little when a heavy load is taken on board, but new vehicles are surprisingly fast. Manufacturers are always looking into new ways of making their models quicker, so do look into the specifications before making a judgement purely based on size.

Convertible
At the opposite end of the scale, there's the convertible, although I'm sure you've dreamt of owning one in the past. People often associate the category with sporty two-seater versions, but there are bigger cars available for families living in hot locations. When viewing a convertible just be sure to check the boot room, as the sizes tend to differ. You won't be able to carry any bikes or large suitcases in the back, but your space should be good for a weekly supermarket shop.

So, now you know, feel free to browse with confidence.
