New Ways for the New Years: 5 Ways to Save Money in 2011

>> Thursday, January 6, 2011

With the shaky economy, every family could benefit from saving a few bucks here and there. The following are five easy tips to add into your daily life that will help you to save money. These tips are not hard to do and can end up saving you a whole lot of money in the long run.

1. Coupons. Coupons. Coupons. Utilize bargains at local stores. The newspaper always has a section with coupons that you could take advantage of. Before going to a store, check online if they have any coupons that you can print out and take with you. All deals are good deals. You’ll quickly know where to look and the best stores to go to get a bargain.

2. Every Penny Counts. Keep track of the change that accumulates in your purse. Have a container or jar to put all of your change. After a few months, it is very likely that you’ll have more than one hundred dollars in that jar. Go to a local bank and trade those coins in for cash.

3. Clearance is always the answer. As soon as you head into a store, head to the clearance section. With a little time, you’ll be able to find something that you need and save money rather than buying the item for full price.

4. Save on gas money. Carpool with people in your neighborhood or families that live close by. Gas prices are still on the rise. Finding alternative ways to cut down on the amount you spend on gas will greatly reduce the amount of money you spend on gas every year. Ride bikes to stores that are close by. Make it a weekend family activity. You’ll get your shopping done and exercise all in one trip. Public transportation is also a good and cheap alternative. Take a bus of a train to work.

5. Avoid the mall. Malls only have seasonal sales and each individual store has different sales at different times, which can be a pain to keep up with. Take the easy route. Start shopping at stores like Wal-Mart, Target, and K-Mart. These types of stores always have the lowest priced items to save you money. You can also get your home needs and food all in the same place, saving gas money from the two separate trips you would’ve made.
