Float hope for all insurers

>> Sunday, October 31, 2010

Offerings even without the necessary profit track record provided they engage institutional investors in buying at least half of the shares being sold.
Sebi last week cleared the disclosure and accounting requirements for public offers by life insurance companies.

It, however, declined to relax the norms on mandatory profitability track record, as requested by the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority (Irda). Sebi has informed Irda that life insurance companies can launch public offers, subject to certain conditions, even if they do not meet the requirement of reporting profits in at least three years of the immediately preceding five years. The condition will require the insurers to launch their IPOs compulsorily through the book-building process, sell to the institutional investors at least 50 per cent of the shares and take steps to ensure sufficient liquidity in stock after the offer, a senior Sebi official said.

Sebi looked into Irda’s request to relax the eligibility requirement related to profitability criteria in its board meeting last week, the official said. Irda had represented that insurance companies might find it difficult to comply with the norm as the gestation period of their business was comparatively longer. It takes around 6-7 years for a life insurer to break even.

Life Insurance Coverage for All: Annual Renewable Term Life Insurance

>> Monday, July 12, 2010

It is all too common for us to hear tales of insurance companies leaving people high and dry once the insurance is actually needed. Take for example, health insurance, they are known for either denying coverage or either raising premiums on patients. So while some of the bad press may be true, it is important to note that not all insurance products are like that. Take for example, life insurance.
The way health insurance policies work, it is legal for insurance companies to sell you coverage, only to abandon you once medical expenses start pouring in. Unlike life insurance, health insurance is renewed on an annual basis. Because of this, if you were to develop a serious medical condition, your health insurance coverage may expire long before you have finished your last medical treatment. Therefore, when it is time to renew coverage, either more often than not you will be denied coverage due to your new health status, or they will require a drastic increase in your premiums.

This product is annual renewable term insurance (ART). By means of ART life insurance, your rates will increase every year, in order to reflect your advancing age, but this increase takes place on a gradual increase and has nothing to do with your health.

Insurance companies will generally place a cap on how far an annual renewable term life insurance policy can be continued. For example, a company might sell an ART life insurance policy that can only be renewed until the insured turns 50 years old, thus inhibiting the use of term life insurance to protect only against an early death. Even so, a person could get several decades of coverage out of an ART life insurance policy, without ever revealing him or herself to the threat of increasing premiums or of becoming uninsurable.

There are also alternatives to ART life insurance products available that are more secure than health insurance. A typical term life insurance policy is not renewable, but its coverage term is longer than a year. Life insurance carriers often sell term policies of 5, 10, 15, 20, and so on. If you become sick during the term of coverage, the carriers may have to wait a long time before the policy expires (and for the obligation to you to expire), depending on the length of the policy you buy and when you become sick.

Tips for Seniors and Life Settlement

>> Friday, July 2, 2010

Seniors who are in-the-know are trading in old life insurance policies for new ones, while putting money in their pocket at the same time through the use of life settlements. The market for life insurance policies is growing by heaps and bounds as more and more institutional investors are flooding the market. This has changed the view point of many seniors as to how they used to look at life insurance. Tremendous growth that is happening every day in this alternative market where policies can be sold just like stocks or bonds makes these life insurance policies worthy assets.

Life Insurance Settlement and its Perks

Seniors now have the freedom of moving on to a new policy that is better suited for them by the use of life settlements. In fact, using the proceeds from selling an older policy to get a new one that suits their needs better is an important and powerful piece of financial freedom. Trading up on policies could offer a new policy with the same or lesser premiums and hence leave some more cash into one's pocket. Seniors can turn to the many financial experts out there to assist them in trading in their policies for better ones.

The process of choosing the right help is a very critical step in going through a settlement. A piece of good advice for seniors is to seek out the help of a provider that is extremely familiar with settlements and can also show their membership in the Life Insurance Settlement Association (USA). Not only can good financial professionals help with the settlement, but they will also ensure it's the best solution for everyone involved. That includes the senior's estate and family.

The value of a policy should always be monitored. When a life insurance policy becomes outdated, it's a good thing that a settlement is an option today. A settlement is often a good idea, but as with anything else, it isn't a one size fits all. It could end badly if a settlement is done without the proper research and knowledge. It is possible for seniors to gain by selling off insurance policies that they are no longer in need of. They shouldn't jump into it without knowing what's going to happen, though. In some cases, even if the policy can be sold it may not be a wise decision to opt for a life settlement. It's a decision that requires research and a well thought-out plan.

Life insurance for old people is no more as expensive as they used to be. Since the market is competitive more companies are making the policies cheaper and affordable. All the insurance companies are trying to increase their customer base. They are trying to win the trust of customers by offering better terms and conditions and better rates. Life Cover for Over 50 is like any other normal life insurance policy but the difference is that it is more expensive than normal policies. You need to pay more premium than your son would have given. But there may be other kinds of incentives. For example you may receive some free gift or even get free cover for a month for buying a policy. Even if the premium rate is a bit high opting for a life insurance is always a wise decision as it will be your savior in time of need.

There are many companies that specialize in over 50 life assurance policy. You can approach these companies for a greater rate and comprehensive cover.
