Is Your Business Struggling With Cash Flow? Here's How To Recover!
>> Monday, November 25, 2013
Businesses have never had it so hard, and many business owners are struggling to meet the costs of their overheads and expenses. Too many strong companies are being weakened by a lack of cash flow, and if you want your business to survive during these times of austerity then you need to start thinking creatively about how you are going to stay afloat. Here are some strategies that you need to start applying to your business if you want it to weather the storm:
Sell Things Off
How much equipment, stock etc. are you storing that you no longer need? You’ll be surprised just what value the things you are not using can hold. If you need to raise some urgent funds then it’s time to have a look at your assets and see what you could sell off. You could even speak to your accountant and see if there are any shares that you could sell to generate a little cash. Every little helps; so think really carefully about what you could live without. It may be tough living without it but it’s still a much better prospect than seeing your business sink without trace.
Buddy Up With Other Businesses
Are you making the most of your business relations? You may well find that if you start asking about, there can be a lot of back-scratching to be done. If you are on good terms with your competitors, could you talk about ways you could possibly pass each other work? Perhaps you could negotiate skill swaps with other professional contacts – for example could you do somebody’s social media marketing in return for them revamping your website? Money is not the only currency, so start thinking more creatively about how you could pay people for their services.
Apply for Government Loans or Grants
You may well be eligible for a loan or even a grant from your government, so it’s worth looking into. The government understands that it can be hard for businesses to stay afloat, and they want to do what they can to help. If you are involved in research and development then you will find lots of help available. You could also approach friends or family for loans, or speak to your bank to see what they could do to help. Don’t suffer in silence – talking things through with an accountant will help you view your financial situation with a lot more clarity.
Review Your Targets
If you are setting yourself unrealistic goals and targets, it may be time to review them. If times are tight then you need to cut back on your spending, and this may well give you a little more room for maneuver when it comes to your sales targets. Make your targets more achievable and you and your staff will feel much more motivated to hit them. It may feel like a step back, and you may make less money in the interim, but it’s a very realistic way of keeping your business going.
Don’t let your business fall victim to these troubled times – tread carefully!
