Why do you need a Financial Advisor?

>> Saturday, February 4, 2012

By now, life has proved one cliché to be spot on, i.e. the only thing that’s constant is ‘change’. And whether that change is positive or negative, we need to be prepared for the worst. Financial matters manage a big chunk of our happiness, stress, performance at work, peace of mind, and more. But you cannot just save up and set your wealth aside. Inflation and a bad economy can eat up the value of your hard earned money, forcing you to work at an age when you should be kicking up your feet to relax. It’s important to build on that wealth. Whichever stage you are in life, it is crucial that you begin mapping and prioritizing your financial goals now.

Unfortunately, in the hectic world of today, with a full-time job, children, parents, social commitments and a home to take care of, many of us are not equipped with the knowledge, expertise and contacts to begin making the right investment choices. That’s where a financial advisor comes in. The basic fundamental lesson in life of managing money with the help of an expert is usually missed out on many people, thinking mistakenly that financial planner is only needed for those who have too much money to handle. Sound financial advice is a must for anyone who is earning money and wishes to live a comfortable life. And since everyone has unique experiences in life, with different spending habits, responsibilities, tendencies to save, and long-term financial goals, a professional will guide you through the myriad of choices that you need to take.

How do you choose the right financial planner? It’s important that you learn what type of financial advisors are out there to decide exactly what kind of financial advice you need and who to give the responsibility of your money. There are two options: Institutional financial advisors, who work under a firm or institution, and Independent Financial Advisers, not bound by any contract or agreement. Opting for the former and you will have a variety of financial analysts, specializing in different products and even with multiple credentials, all under one roof. Institutions will usually employee an expert after a background check and a clean record, and also acknowledge being liable for the advisor’s actions. But be careful! An institutional financial advisor may push you to buy an investment product being promoted by the company itself, thus having a self-interest agenda in mind.

An independent financial advisor, on the other hand, will give you and Financial Advice Chelmsford customized according to your requirements and goals. But you need to be aware in this case too. You may be get trapped with someone who is just a salesperson, or is only able to give you financial advice in one type of investment. You must carefully evaluate whether the advisor you have chosen has the right tools and a mix of qualifications to manage your money smoothly. Use referrals from people you trust, but remember that a success story for one may not work for another. Measure the strengths and weakness of the advisor in question and trust your gut feeling too. It may be necessary to go through several advisors before you put your faith into one.
