7 Great Ways To Keep On Top Of Your Finances While You're In College

Can you get help?
There
are plenty of ways to get scholarships and grants, but you just need to
know how to apply for them. If you get any they could really help you
out and your tuition could be even cheaper than what you expected to
pay. This should be the first thing you try to find out once you know
which college you are going to, and always keep checking to see if
anything new comes up.
Part-time work
You
have to spend a lot of time studying, but if you don't have much money
you might be forced to take on part-time work. It's either that or you
won't be able to go out drinking with your friends. Because you won't be
working many hours per week it doesn't really matter what job you get.
The important thing is that you're making enough money to pay for
things.
Start your own business
A
lot of college students decide to start their own business and you can
too. There is nothing stopping you from running a business at the same
time as studying, but just remember what comes first. Maybe you can
start an online business and run it from your room. If you're looking
for an offline adventure, go for it. Just do something that will bring
in money.
Buy secondhand textbooks
Textbooks
are expensive and if you need to buy a lot of them they can definitely
add up. An easy way to get around it is by buying everything secondhand.
There will always be someone trying to sell last year's books because
it's not like they need them anymore. Don't buy anything new or you will
be throwing money away.
Eat like a student
You
might be used to lovely food because your mom is a good chef, but she
isn't going to college with you. Just accept that you will have to eat
like a student for the next few years. If you end up landing a well-paid
job while you're studying you might be able to afford steak and fish,
but until then you're stuck with noodles and pizza.
Don't treat yourself
You
don't need to treat yourself to fancy toys just because you want to
spend money. There are much more important things you could do with the
money you have sitting in your bank account. You might have a room full
of expensive gadgets at the end of the day, but do you really need them?
One of these days you're going to need a lot of money for something and
you'll be glad you have it available.
Drink less alcohol
Students
spend a crazy amount of money on alcohol and what is the point? You
forget about your night and wake up in the morning with a sore head. You
don't go to college to stay sober and nobody is saying you can't drink
beer, but just don't go crazy and spend all of your money on it. When
you go to the toilet to be sick you should imagine dollar bills spewing
out of your mouth.
