Choosing The Right Loan For You Shouldn't Be Rushed - Here's How To Do It
>> Thursday, September 12, 2013
If you need to secure a large cash lump sum, then whether it’s for a car, to fund a wedding or just to consolidate your debts elsewhere, you need to be absolutely certain that you are getting the best value for money possible. It’s difficult to know where to start as there are so many loan offers on the market. It pays to be smart and really do your research before you commit to anything, as once you have signed the forms it is very hard to go back on it. In this article we’ll help you sort through all the different options available to you, and also point out some of the pitfalls:
How Is Your Credit Rating?
You need to be sure that you are going to be able to get a loan before you go too much further. If you have defaulted on previous loans then new loan companies may not look too favorably upon you. It is possible to get a report on your credit history and this is a great place to start. If your credit rating is bad then you may still be offered a loan, just at a higher APR (Annual Percentage Rate). It may be better for you to spend a year getting your credit rating better before you take the plunge and get a new loan. A financial advisor can help advise you on how best to do this, and will make suggestions such as making sure existing bills and debts are all up to date on their payments. Be wary that every loan application will appear on your credit rating, so if you keep getting turned down, every rejection will be there on your history for all new lenders to see. If you get a rejection then it’s better to wait a while before trying again.
Compare the Loans Available
Don’t jump at the first good loan opportunity you find. Shop around on the net and with the banks and see who is offering the best deal. Compare things like APR, repayment terms and whether any other incentives are offered. Compare a few deals and work out which one looks best to you. Go on some online forums and see what other people are saying about the current loan offers on the market. Work out what your monthly repayment would be on each loan, and decide whether or not you can realistically afford it.
Don’t Pledge Loyalty to Your Bank!
Some people think that they can only get a loan from their bank – this is completely wrong and you may well end up getting stung! You can get a loan from absolutely anywhere, but make sure you choose a reputable company that has good online reviews. If you get a better deal elsewhere but you would rather go with your bank, then it is always worth contacting them to see if they will match the terms – you never know.
Getting a loan is a complicated affair and something you should not rush into. If you have any questions it’s always better to seek advice before you sign up for anything.
