Can you Afford your Life?
>> Sunday, October 16, 2011
I know that you’ve worked hard for what you’ve got. Many of us don’t have the luxury of having a 9-5 anymore. More of us are taking up second jobs just to keep up with our car and mortgage payments. It’s quite hard to sit back and look at the current situation and not wonder if you can buy some other things to make your life a bit more comfortable.
The problem is that we often ask ourselves, can we afford a new car now? Maybe we might think about getting a new couch since
we can afford it now. The problem is that we’re looking at what we can afford now. What if something bad like an emergency happens or if you get laid off? Would you be able to afford it now? More than likely, you’d be crushed under the sheer amount of debt that you have accumulated when you thought that you could afford it now.It begs the question to most of us. Can we really afford our lives? Sure, you might be able to afford it now but as mentioned earlier, what if something bad happens and your income stream dries up? What happens if you get sick? You can’t work anymore; you don’t even have enough money to cover health insurance. You’re in the hospital and all these medical bills are piling up. Can you afford the new TV or new couch now? What happens to your life?
Now let me ask again; can you afford your life?
Your savings are minimal coz you thought you had a secure job, you’re upside down on your mortgage, you’ve got huge credit card debt because of all the new things that you like to buy. Sure you’ve got a spankin’ new car, your house is nice with all this new furniture but the facts are that you simply can’t afford it anymore.
These are the type of questions that you’ve got to ask yourself. Don’t think if you can afford it now. Ask yourself if you can afford it in the worst financial scenario. I hope that in every decision that you make that you come back to that question and only proceed if the answer is a clear “YES!”
